BOOKMAKING WITH RANDOMNESS by Mahdi Chandler

Get creative at Glyph Gallery and Creative Space in Port Fairy

Two days of unstructured, spontaneous, incidental, unplanned, accidental, unintentional, unpremeditated journal making. Join Tasmanian artist Mahdi Chandler as she guides you through the delights of making books without boundaries to be used as art journals, diaries, to record days, places, holidays and special events. Simple constructions, slot and tab, folded forms & frottage, concertina with covers, hinged bindings. Break out the glue sticks, double sided tape, staplers, and simple stitch. Junk journals, recycled hard covers, pamphlet binding, including pockets envelopes tags and tabs, stamps and stickers, bookmarks and closures. Super fun and inspirational – new skills to last you a lifetime!

Mahdi Chandler teaches and exhibits throughout Australia. Her home & studio are located at Gordon, Southern Tasmania, and provide endless inspiration for her mixed media artwork. This remote area has led Mahdi to explore and experiment with some unconventional materials and make the most of the resources around her. Colour, texture, pattern and interpreting the landscape on paper and cloth is the focus of her work. Travelling and attending workshops have furthered her knowledge & understanding of traditional and contemporary skills. A background in visual arts education has led to ongoing investigation and exploration of a wide range of materials and techniques.
